We had a great first season growing from 1 person to 30 plus strong through word of mouth and we ended the season with a 5th place in team points and a few state champions to boot. We race locally in Arizona but have a major focus on epics, 24s and nationals. I race expert and will try my hand at some road races in the fall. I enjoy all kinds of biking (We even got married on our tandem). If you are looking for a fun and competitve team to race for in arizona give me a call (602)332-5436 My Bikes

Personally I feel duo is the hardest category Ive ever done for a 24 hour race. There are a ton of strategies out there for DUO. Either you switch off every lap (We chose this route) Which was fine up till about 5 laps in. soon as you off the bike your cooling down eating and warming right back up again and your out. There is little recovery time maybe 20 minutes of calm if that. We blew up and slept an hour. changing our fate from top 10 to 17th. The top teams alternate till night falls then they do 2 laps then switching giving enough tiome for recovery. I would do this route if I were doing duo again. ALSO you need some people to help. A GREETER with a jacket as you come off the lap. A COOK to hand you your meal as you get to camp. A MECHANIC to hand the bike off to and get it ready for the next lap. then you can focus on yourself and the next lap otherwise you will be doing all this in a hurry and before you know it your partner is in and waiting for you and you didnt have time to eat didnt finish lubing your chain that breraks during the lap and in the haist you forgot your chain tool. then your $#%^&. SOLO I feel is easier because you only let down yourself if your faltering, but you still need all the help. I cant stress enough about how important having the dedicted help is!!!!!

Scooby -- ever do a 24-hour solo or with a very small team? We're considering a 2 man operation in a few weeks. Any advice?

Oh if I would of only trained for the event that would of been better... Actually 2 weeks before the OP24 I wrenched my back thinking I was he-man and could lift the tongue of the fetish trailer. then later the pinch came from my ass down to my big toe... very painfully... l4 l5 is pinched somewhere well there was not much I could do as I had 3 weekends of racing. SSAZ07, OP24 then our local race series MBAA #2. luckily the pain was more when i was off the bike trying to rest. If I were to do a 24 solo again. I would work on my food regime and my pit stops a little better. my goal would be 14 for next time ... I didnt go into this one with any goal till late in the light I had my eye on 12. and could of done it but waited 30 min from the finish on my 11the lap so I would not have to do a 12th. It was an experience.

Congratulations on your recent race results. What does it take to train for a 24 hour race?? Maybe an endless summer like you have in AZ?
