It was the first year they (COBS) were offering this three month mountaineering/rafting/sea kayaking course. The description of what we would be doing scared the shit out of me but sounded really cool at the same time. I needed something to get my act together and get myself out of the gutter. Things didn't exactly always go as planned out there; seven people had to be evacuated. We ended up in all sorts of ridiculously dangerous and just otherwise bad situations, but I came back stronger. I intend to keep on going back to Alaska on a regular basis. You should go...hook up with folks that really know the place (I would have been completely lost without the instructors/guides, if not dead, but that's a longer story). Where's Jan, he's been awful quite lately...
