I’m thinking of heading to Blue Mountain on Monday to take Ladies First on her first ride. Anyone have the day off?
I’ll probably be hitting the trailhead around 11am.
You’re welcome to join!

So I did a 5-day bike tour two weeks ago with my girl. This was my first self-supported overnight bike trip. I converted The Phantom to a touring rig for the trip (don’t worry, it has since been changed back to it’s favored skinny-tire, 1×9 setup)
She had a wedding to go to up in VT, and I had a wedding to go to the next weekend about 10 miles away from hers. (If that’s not ironic enough, both these weddings took place in the area I grew up). So, what better to do between weddings than a big loop around scenic Vermont? We used the Adventure Cycling Association’s Green Mountains Loop route. (check it out here: http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/greenmtnsloop.cfm). We started the day after her wedding, directly from the farm (wedding on a farm…not bad), and rode 365 miles around VT (and 15 miles into Canada!) before cruising into my old home on Friday. We averaged about 70 miles per day, with all our gear (we camped out…so tent, sleeping bags, food, stove, etc, in addition to clothes and such). I’d forgotten how nice Vermonters are…certainly much better than New Yorkers! Yikes! The weather turned out perfect the entire week, which was amazing considering that it rained up there literally every day from July 16 to the day before we arrived!! Insane! Of course, that did mean that all the farmers were harvesting their hay that week as well since there wasn’t any rain. And, anyone who knows how haying works, knows that as soon as they bring in the harvest they spread loads of manure on the fields as fertilizer!! Yum! So, yea, smelled just like roses. A pretty awesome tour otherwise, though! If you’ve actually read all this, you’re about to get the chance to laugh at me. So I’ve been dating this girl for about three months now. She’s great. Big into cycling. So big into it, in fact, that she kicks my ass. Now I don’t claim to be amazing, but I do ride every day, as well as a few centuries during the summer (did the NYC Century just today!). But this girl pulled me for at least 275 of the 365 miles we rode together. She only drafted on me for about 30 miles. The rest of the miles were spent getting glances of her half a mile ahead as I crested a hill. Ouch! It’s probably better that way, though. We all need to be trod on now and again.hey all,

I had to replace my carbon bars with some cheap-o aluminums because the taper reaches farther out on carbon bars, so there wasn’t enough room for the new lockout remote. such is life. :-/
I didn’t want to mess up the lines of the fork with something as undeserving as a computer sensor and wire, so I mounted the sensor piggie-back on the brake caliper (check the pic), and wound the wire down the brake housing. Not bad. Nicely hidden. Anyone wanna put bets on how long before that gets ripped off and goes into my rotor? Woo-hoo!!
I also replaced my blue grips with some ODI lock-ons we had around the shop. The blue, black, white and gold of the front end was a bit much for me. I’m thinking of going back to black tires once these wear out.
All in all, absofuckinglutely B-E-A-utiful!!!
I want to point out that Rock Shox has some awesome attention to detail. The sag measurements are printed on the stanchion. AND, they put a red o-ring on the stanchion that has one purpose: to help you measure sag using the measurements printed on the stanchion. On top of that, the rebound adjuster knob on the bottom pulls off (rather diffucult to do) and is a 2.5mm allen key, which you need to adjust the lockout knobs. Awesome.
Anyone have an opinion on Fulcrum Red Metal vs. Mavic Crossmax? I’ve heard good things about the Fulcrums lately. Good Campy quality. But, the Red Metal 3 is 200 grams heavier than the Crossmax ST for similar price. Thoughts?
