Yo! Moved to Portland about 7 months ago and the riding is great! West coast roolz! OLD NEWS Decided to build a bike: Used to work at a bike shop in high school (best job I ever had by the way) and was really into freestyle/bmx (1990’s) and never had other friends to ride with after going off to college. Anyway, that was over 15 years ago and I just got back into biking, nursing a running injury, so I decided to build a roadbike—A LOT HAS CHANGED and I am so excited about building my MACHINE!!! (Damn, I love eBay!) Anyway, I am looking forward to riding before NYC starts to freeze over. My Bikes

Portland's an awesome town! I lived here once before and couldn't wait to get back -- That should tell you something. I think there must be more bicyclists here, per capita, than anywhere else. Folks are quite "green" here in Oregon, so human-power is all the rage! From fixies and tandems to road bikes and recumbents. They're everywhere! And yoi really have a lot of choice on where to ride. Lots of trails and even more if you are willing to trek. As far as getting around goes, A LOT of folks bike to work here, every day --- EVEN IN THE RAIN! There are plenty of routes: http://www.portlandonline.com/shared/cfm/image.cfm?id=100362

Got the bike nearly completed -- I'd gotten some Reynolds carbon forks via eBay, but the steerer was too short!! The Ultegra shifters I'd gotten a "great deal" on via eBay also were not what I'd expected. Argghgh! Anyway, I reintroduced myself to a great local bike shop in Brooklyn called R&A Cycles and they hooked me up with a new Kestrel carbon fork and it looks sweet. Just need a hacksaw and new shifters now, so I can do the finishing touches. (So much depends on the fork and shifters!)
