As Adam stated in his blog Winter sucks! I’m packing up and heading south to Florida for 11 days in March with my girlfriend, bmx bike and my road bike in tow. Good times are surly ahead….although rumor has it March is predicted to be rainy down there. Anything is better than the snow and cold that Connecticut has been plagued with for the past month or so.
Anybody know any hot spots around Fort Meyers worth checking out?
I’ve been to Florida dozens of times but never south of Tampa on the west side.
So I raced the Cat. 4/5 crit in Naugatuck, CT this weekend and we had a 50+ rider field. Going into a hard left turn at around 25 mph a pack of 4 riders went down and it figures one of them was 15 feet ahead of me. Thank God for my BMX background cause it was either go down tough with the group or bunnyhop the guys rear wheel at speed and pray I made it. I jumped his wheel clean and got a ton of “hoy shit, that was crazy” comments from the riders beside and behind me afterwards. It truly was F-ing crazy and if I had hit his wheel I would have been roast beef on the pavement. Its funny how you lose all regard for personal well being in a race and just got for it. Anyone else out there had a crazy road race experience like this? This is my first season racing and its 10x burlier than the NORBA MTB races I took part in for 4 seasons.
Anybody riding in Discovery’s Race to Replace on August 12th at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? I think it would be amazing to spin laps on that 2.5 mile track. Some of my bike shop buddies and I are considering scrapping our annual BMX skatepark roadtrip/tour and doing a roadie roadtrip out to the race. It is kinda steep, $150 to race the 25 miler, but it does go to cancer research so its a good cause! I know I don’t have a shot in hell at winning anything, but I can say I rode at the Indy Speedway and its surly a once in a lifetime experience!
An riders in the lower New England area who ride a bmx, cruiser, or freeride hardtail are invited to come to P. Krol’s Jump Jam on July 1st in Middletown, CT. Take a look at my profile, there are a few pics of one of the sets in his yard. Big old dirt jumps, some quarter pipes, and a soon to be finished mini ramp! There will be a good 2 dozen riders showing up as well as 2 local bands playing. If you are interested in coming shoot me a message and I’ll get you the details. Last years jam was off the hook, until the cops came and shut it down….but we have a permit from the city this year…so no BS!
