Dirt_DadConnecticutAbout Me
Been riding 3 years now and I can’t get enough. My wife calls this my midlife crisis but is thankful it’s this and not a new girlfriend.
The Fixation will make my fourth bike in since I started riding. My third bike and by far, I think my favorite, is a rigid, singlespeed 29er called the Qball. Riding with my kids has become a big part of my riding activities, whether its with my daughter on her rigid, singlespeed mountain bike on rail trails and easy trails, to pulling my sons in a Burley trailer, it’s wonderful to share these experiences with them. Nothing new there. DEP says everything is multi-use unless otherwise posted.

Hey DD -- Was riding Day Pond last week and saw a new metal badge nailed to a tree "Blue Trail - No Bikes". Is the state cracking down because there is so much insane building going on now (by building I mean stunts -- which is obviously a result of the bike industry producing bigger hit bikes). What is your inside NEMBA perspective on this issue?

I have the Edge 305. It's extremely accurate but lacks any good features. What's the drawback with the next gen? Granted, Garmin Topo maps suck, only go to 1:100,000 scale. The other drawback, at least with the Edge 305 is that you can't upload multiple tracks and have a map that you can follow. I thought you could do that with the 705 but I haven't really checked it out.

Hey DD -- which cycle computer/GPS do you use? I'm looking to get one. The Garmin Edge 605/705 looks really cool with the color screen... but I hear it has a way to go before the maps & interface are useful for mountain bikers.

Heck yeah man, the monkey is the only way to roll. I see you've got the 29er disease as well. I sold all my other rides and recently picked up a Sin Pro 24 incher...its going to be a fun summer....if I dont bust myself up....

If you need a little help getting your stanchions up I can lend you my fork pump. You're going to need at-least 140mm.

I like to use a wax lube in the winter.
Left by Eric on December 13, 2007
Yeah buddy! Just don't forget the lube otherwise it won't start out easy for you but I am sure you will warm up to it!

Hey DD how do you feel about riding Myanus soon? Its going to be pretty muddy so I would suggest wearing extra protection. You have 7 or 8 inches up front, right? I've been told thats what you need to really experience the whole ride.

If you are a member of NEMBA, we have a member's ride on July 10 at Penwood, starting at 6 PM. If you are not and would like to join, just show up and I can give you a referral card in which you will be entered into a drawing for a new Fox Fork.

It's a Manitou Splice 130mm. Came stock on my Giant AC that I switched out for another Manitou fork when I was selling the AC because the buyer didn't like that there was a wheel rub on the crown. Works great, though.
Left by Dirt_Dad on June 17, 2007
What'd you put on? I'm looking at the Manitou Minute 100/130... cheap.
Left by Adam on June 17, 2007
Holy cow, what a difference! 130mm rocks on the Fetish. Need to try more technical trails, but todays ride was like buttah!

Not yet - still have to get another crown race for my Cane Creek S-3 headset. I'd like to find one on the cheap, but if I can't get one that way in the next month then I will just order one from directly from Cane Creek.

Did you put on the splice yet? So far mine is working out great, but I'm interested to see how the transition goes from rigid to 130.

It's already a fixed gear. Strange, making the switch to fixed. I got on my Trek today and was waiting for the resistance in the pedals.

Not sure I can see it - does it take awhile to replicate to the server outside the firewall?

The new comment feature you mentioned is implemented (receiving an email
when someone else comments on the same thing you commented on). To edit
the settings, click "Edit Account" from your profile page. It's turned on by default
for bikes, pictures and blogs. Thanks for your input.

What GPS? I used to have the Garmin Forerunner 201 for trail running... but it always lost signal under tree cover. So I sold it and now the the Apple iPod Nike + system instead. No GPS, but better distance accuracy.

There you go. Had to grab your lng/lat coordinates.
Left by Adam on March 04, 2007
Thanks, I'll put it in. Profile editing has long been broken. I'll fix that with the addition of the "comment notification" feature. Probably do that tonight.
Left by Adam on March 04, 2007
Yeah, you're missing a zipcode. Can I have your zip-code? I'll put it in.

(by the way, I really appreciate suggestions. I want to take this site in a lot of new directions, and it really helps when actual users have something to say about what they'd like.)
Left by Adam on March 04, 2007
Thanks for the feedback. The "comment notification" idea has been on my mind for a while, so I'll probably be implementing that soon. The forum isn't my software, which is why I haven't been too excited about it. I'd been meaning to write my own so that it integrates well with everything else. As for a central picture repository, I'd have to create a "gallery" system... where you can create seperate folders. Then from blogs, etc... you could either upload the standard way or link to an existing image as you suggested.

I haven't even gotten to the drive system yet. How does a half link work?
Left by FredrockinVA on March 02, 2007
I have a flip flop on it now. either i put a chain tensioner on it or I find a frame with horizontal drop outs.

What part of CT are you from? And what trails do you ride?

Cranberry Lambic is an aquired taste, or desparation, depending where you are in the sampler pack the wife brought home because she is simply nekulturny (uncultured) when it comes to beer.
Left by Dirt_Dad on January 03, 2007
i'm a beer nerd, but Cranberry Lambic sounds like robotussin. Weyerbacher Winter Ale and Rogue's xmas Ale has been good to me lately.
beer nerd's unite!
