if you had to abandon either exercise (mtn. biking,cros-fit, and running, etc.) or beer for the rest of your life which would it be? and technically, aren't you supposed to banned from the site forever after losing to Mr. Andy Chang? they are both rhetorical. - jeeproad

Hey. if you get this today, and email me before 3ish, I can get you that helmet. The order's going in today, though. The black is $90, but the red is on clearance right now for $68. Which size? The smaller or larger? I'll put a smaller one on the order in red, if i don't hear from you, and just take it myself if you don't want it. email me at two.tired4good@gmail.com or call me at 603-568-6766

Douglas - Fall rides are the best!
I am putting together a small e-mail list for daily updates on where we are and highlights from the road. I am planning on leaving e-mails for a friend of mine who will then type them up for me and send them. If you want to be on the list, just send me an e-mail and let me know. (I would update daily here, but I dont have time or computer access to be able to do it during the race). There will also be an animated map of progress on the RAAM site, and (hopefully daily) updates on our site.

I have been using a Garmin MAP60 for the past couple of years. Not terrribly accurate at times but does the job. Actually have a ride map that I created using it published on a website: http://www.bikerag.com/images/MAPS/ct_burr_farm_review.htm Santy Claus put a Garmin Edge 305 in my stocking but I have only used it twice so far. Complicated little POS if you ask me but really cool. Also, just got a Magellan eXplorist 400 from Sears on clearance. a little more complicated than the MAP60 but essentially the same kind of unit. Big difference is that it has 2 gb of memory in the form of an HD Micro SD card in it. Not only do I use the GPS to track my distance, in which I record everything in an application called Sporttracks (free, just google it) which is a super tool for this stuff, I use the data to make maps.

My pleasure. As I mentioned in my note, I am a mod on two other sites and have been largely involved with the latest enhancements on those sites. What I really like about this site is that it attracts both roadies and mtb'ers alike (and sprinkled in are a few "BMexicans"), and the interaction is very entertaining. One question, however, why can't I see nearby riders to myself? Is there a setting I am missing?

I posted a reply to your comment on my d'Lite blog. Figured out how to do the pix. Do the blog and then go back and do the pix. Now, what would be better, is we had a central repository for pix, by user account, and then you drop an image link like what you do in a forum, e.g. MTBR. Not as an attachment but as a n image link. Also, what would be nice for those of us that are quick responders to other comments is if you leave a comment for another user on a picture, blog, etc..., that you get the option of a notification of any additional comments. Granted, that is really what the forum should be for but the forum seems to be collecting alot of dust. That problem might be more of a, login issue. The forum should some how be integrated with this side of the site.

Hey, what's up? The red accents are: Red Carbon Fiber spacer on front, Red Salsa lip lock seat clamp and of course, the pedals are Red Acid 2. I ordered the hubs in red and will probably go with a single disc brake on the rear with a red cable sleeve, which is why I thought I might need the singelator. Didn't know how easy it would be to set the disc brakes with a horizontal drop-out. I'm always open to suggestions!! Thanks for the comments - The wheelset should be in soon, I'll make sure to get some pics up.

Been doing ok. Winter has been uneventfull here in south texas. I fractured my tailbone prepping for race in in Cloudcroft NM(High Altitude Classic), Tried to ride it anyway and screwed it up even worse, so I have been off the bike up until about a month ago. For the winter i bought a 1961 Murray Sonic flite "Middle Weight" Cruiser bike, and rebuilt it with parts from the internet and elbow grease. I'll post pics later. i bought a funny double cheek bike seat for the mtb, it kind of sucks, but I gotta ride, it is the only exercise I enjoy. thats me, thanks for dropping a line.

I'm pretty sure they are the same finish as your skewers. They are the F-Crank. I saw them a few years ago...so I may be wrong. I'm pretty sure it's just the crank, but I wouldn't doubt he has the chainrings sitting around, I'll check. For the most part SF if a great place to live, there are a few neighborhoods that stand out, Marina, Nob Hill, Russian Hill. Those places are some of the nicer parts. Just stay away from the Western Addition, Hunters point, tenderloin, lower Nob Hill (AKA the tender Nob) and parts of the mission. If you find a place that you’re unsure about give me the cross streets and I'll give you a little 411 on the area.

SF street ridding is great!!! Lots of hills and ok trails to ride on. The SF city park has some fun short trails for MTB but nothing really to write home about. But just a few min away by car or a short ride away accross the Golden Gate bridge are some crazy single tracks along the cost. Also if you like the more MT rids ther is MT Tam and MT Diablo a short 15-30min car ride away with some really good rids.

There's not much good mountain riding around Syracuse. I go to Ithaca sometimes with the cycling team. Otherwise, there's some awesome, technical riding in the old shut-down quarry by south campus. But, you always run the risk of getting caught by the cops, since it's illegal, and getting a $500 fine! There is some good road riding around though.

As for doing a beer review, I a still game. For anyone that has never heard of the iceman race, i will be racing in it Nov. 4th. The race is held in Northern Michigan and it has been going 17 years. It is billed as the single largest 1 day MTB race in the US. if anyone is interested in next year. Google Iceman to find the web site. mr. roth. when are we gonna go ride again? i can ride during the week too if you would like to take clifford out to get mauled by kallan. no, but seriously. riding six miles on the piranha was the most painful thing i've ever done. good thing i'm getting slicks for the city. i'm definitely free between the 21st and 29th to trail ride or city ride. or today. or tomorrow. not saturday. sunday maybe. or anytime next week. peace.

The crank is nice, it's the very first crank i bought so i guess it's nicer than my bontrager select tripple that came with my trek 1200.....um i think i wound up spending $900ish for all the e-bay parts, my bike shop charged me around $400 which incleded two tires, headset, stem, bars, bar tape, cutting the steerer tube, and a fee for instalation of the BB, headset, oh and i had to send back my Fetish Cycle's white carbon seatpost which wasn't really carbon (it was carbon wrapped, and it didn't fit the position's seat tube like FC said it would)....so i had to rake up more than twice what i paid for the FC seatpost to buy a bontrager one, but i like it and it's easier to adjust than the traditional style of seatpost clamp........um yeah i think i could've done things a bit cheaper had i known what i was doing, but it's my first custum bike.....perhaps next time, i'll find a way to get the same quality stuff for all under $500 and build everything myself. so that's why i'm working for the summer to earn some more green.

California is great. Very bike friendly. Bike lanes everywhere. The weather is always nice. It's "rained" once since I've been here. Everyone was talking about the "storm" the next day. I would tell them a real storm isn't a drizzle, but rather your trees are all blown down. Good luck.

TonyTyrant - Winter Cross!
Yeah, I've ridden that trail many times. My buddy lives up on Daly Rd. so we've been riding up there since Middle School. There are a good 6-8 other trails off the top of the orchard. Most of them head to the tracks, the other 2 into the woods at the base of the Twn Hills on 66 heading to Marlborough. I'll have to get together and ride with those guys soon.

TonyTyrant - Winter Cross!
I ride all over CT, but my stomping grounds are the sindgletrack trails found on either side of the railroad tracks from Cranberry Bog to Colchester in the Salmon River area. I often park up on Daly road and start 75% of my rides up in the Peach Orchards. There is some super techy singletrack off the backside of the orchard that runs parallel to Dickinson Creek and some fast clean singletrack off the frontside with some great stone wall and log jumps.

Thanks dude, I'm currently working on getting pictures put up as we speak, not having a digital camera makes it tough. I still need to change out my brakes on the fixationi as well. Going with the Hayes hd 9's which I've heard mixed reviews about, but i figure for what I plan on doing they should work fine. I'll keep you posted though, PS:I like the fixation you've got pictured above, what kind of fork is that? Ride hard dude Frost
