Is there a shrink in the house?

Well, the 2007 season is taking shape. The usual races here in Utah all either have dates set or are in the midst of getting them assigned. My former big event was LOTOJA. Oh, I’m planning on doing the race again this year. But going over this year’s schedule, I came accross a new race set for the week after LOTOJA. Called the HOODOO 500, by appearances it looks to be a nightmare. “The race follows a course starting in St. George, and traveling through Hurricane, Colorado City, Kanab, Carmel Junction, Bryce, Tropic, Escalante, Boulder, Torrey, Panguitch, Cedar City and back to St. George.”

512 miles with 30,000 feet of climbing.
No big deal, right? This “Ultra Bicycle Marathon” must be completed within 48 hours.

I’ve already got my support for the race. Apparently I’ve lost my mind. Well, if there was a time to really get into the numbers of the whole training thing, now is the time to do it. Diet, heart rate, training regimine, the whole works. Within 1 week, I’ll be riding 718 miles and climbing 40,000 plus feet within an alotted time of 62 hours. I’m torn between nervousness and excitement at this thought. The Red Dragon is just about ready for the upgrade items to be installed. Just recieved my Specialized Team Toupe seat yesterday. Amazing seat. Pictures will be coming soon.

Anyone out there with some endurance strategy that works for you? Advice would be very much appreciated.

I'm running a 50 mile race in April, so I've been training for a while. I hit the gym hard twice a week for weight training, run 3-4 times a week including a 2 to (eventually) 5 hour long run on the weekends, totally changed my diet. I suggest going for it, but don't attempt to push too hard. I always get too excited before running a marathon and end up tanking around mile 17. If I was patient, I would've finished faster and with energy to spare. Let us know how this all goes for you.
