SAC Fixie
Posted by illfish on May 08, 2006

All,

Got rid of my MOAB because I didn’t like it and never rode it. I need to build my SAC into a fixie. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/cheap options for parts? I need to get this built out soon and all I have is frame. I need everything.

So, just from your comments, is this a bad idea? My wife and I are having another baby (#3), so I don't have any cash to spend on it. I was hoping to save a little by doing it this way. There's a swap meet here in KC this weekend so I'm looking to pick up a decent set of wheels, fork, handlebars. Do you guys think I should buy the fork brand new? I planned on buying the headset new. I am not really even looking for lightness here; I could really even handle a chrome-moly fork. I just need a ride as it will be very important for me to get the two other children out of the house when my wife becomes pregnant-crazy.

Can't use a singulator on a fixie. It won't hold enough tension. fixedgeargallery.com has ideas for modding vertical dropouts. Also sheldonbrown has some inexpensive fixie ideas. White industries makes the eno hub that'll take up chain tension. Also some company(I don't remember who) makes a eccentric BB.
