Question about competitive racing
Posted by BikeyMikey on April 29, 2008

This year I want to take my riding to a new level and race. The thing is that I am totally oblivious to the racing world. I want to do either track or road racing. Any help here?

Find a shop with a cycling club. Usually buy a jersey, get discounts, and get dropped on the rides... You'll get fast and learn from guys who know. Good luck.

cool thanks for the info. I enjoy riding solo around town, but I think its time I kick it up a step

for track: google the northbrook velodrome, and you should get plenty of info on it. i think they make you do 3(?) of the clinics before you can race on tuesday evenings. for road: best thing to do would be to find a group to ride with? some people prefer to train alone, but there's nothing that makes you ride faster than riding with other people. you can also go to the website usa cycling and look for races in the area. crits and road races i think have already started up. the usa cycling site would also have the most info on rules, etiquette, etc.

Andy (wch759) can help you out. He's a Chicago racing legend.
