Hey, isn't that Andy's old bike
Posted by wesley124 on March 05, 2008

3/19/08 Update Wheelset arrived. Bike should be all built up mid-April.

3/12/08 Update I posted the specs last night as a new bike but don’t have any pics yet to show.

The first Orbea Opal I ever saw was on this site when Andy had posted pics of his when he got one. I thought it was a nice frameset then; I have spent the majority of my free time over the past month deciding on the specs for the used Opal I bought somewhat randomly online about a month ago. The wheelset is going to be insane. I went with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes in black, White Industries H2 Hubs in a black finish on DT Swiss RR 1.1 Rims, and ControlTech Titanium Bolt-On Skewers (the 5mm hex wrench type) in black which weigh 47g total for the set, and a Dura-ace 12-25 cs-7700 cassette. The rest of the parts selection is pretty solid, so I’m absolutely psyched about the whole project in general and can’t wait until it’s all built up and ready to be taken out on the road.

Thanks Cheryl, you kick-ass, seriously. Adam, I was checking out the fox fork but came to the sobering realization that it's definitely overkill for the JEEP ROAD, that and it is disc only, right? You guys are going to have a sick time riding that week when you are back in CT - should be awesome.

I'm flying home to visit for a week mid-April. So rather than having the bike shipped to CA, and then shipped to CT to ride, and then ship it back to CA... it's easiest just to have it shipped East. (That, and it saved me $450 in sales tax). The original plan was to fly home next week.. but I changed my flight hoping that Spooky would have my custom frame complete by then. No such luck... now I've got to wait 3 weeks and dump $900 worth of excess MTB parts before I can ride. Hey... you need a Fox F100 RLC, right? Maybe an XTR rear?

The new GT is sweet, damn it's going to be a painfully long 3 weeks. Why are you having it sent to the East coast?

Shit that's nice. My new GT arrives today.... in Connecticut.... 3000 miles away. I won't be able to ride it for 3 weeks :(

Thanks Adam. I resisted the temptation to go with a 650c wheel in the back...ha!

Now thats a proper build-off bike. I might have to replace Andy's entry with yours...
