Biker Build Off: Adam v. Andy

Spooky Junebug vs. Specialized Tarmac Pro

...or even:

Carbon vs Steel

Road vs Mountain

East vs West (hahaha)

Can Andy Chang’s Carbon-Road-Racing-Commuter defeat Adam’s custom Spooky Junebug in the court of public opinion (er, the opinion of DirtDad, Eric, Wesley… and maybe a few others. Hey who visits this site anymore?)

Keep an eye on this post for build updates. Andy, you are going to finish that bike aren’t you?

Oh, and the loser is banished from the site forever. F O R E V E R

Full XTR, Crossmax SLRs, Juicy Ultimates Fox RLC100, Thomson Elite/Masterpiece -- $5500 worth of parts. None of which matter much at the moment. I may have to go another route because of issues with the frame builder and timing.

Adam, that bike of yours is pretty kick-ass! ...oh. where is it again?

Andy might win by default if Adam doesn't hurry up!

ah damn. i just realized that i went with the 105 cranks. it's ok. must save more money - then i will get some FSA mega exos. bike rides like a dream so far. crappy tires though. must get that taken care of.

BUILD OFF UPDATE:

1. Still waiting on my frame. I expect delivery by mid-February

( 2. Paul Cox (http://www.paulcoxleather.com) has expressed an interest in doing custom leather work on my seat. He's well known for his work in the motorcycle industry - chopper builds, fabrication and most notably, leather tooling. Having Paul work on the seat would be a fitting tribute seeing as he worked closely with Indian Larry who was a Biker Build-Off legend:

"...it's no wonder that Paul Cox Leather is in such high demand. Having made seats for the likes of Indian Larry, Jesse James, Exile Cycles, and Billy Lanes Choppers Inc. as well as a host of others. Paul's work continues to be sought after final polished detail for any old school chopper."

The only problem is that it'll cost more than the custom frame I'm waiting on. I'm gonna go play some online blackjack to make this happen. Good luck Andy!

My vote is that Andy Wang fellow. He's gon' build a bike that can handle the ice road AND the dirt road.

Today was a great day to be outside. Tomorrow will be another story. I raced my bike at Mohawk in 1996 or 97. All the way up, all the way down, 98 degrees out.

Dumpgoose is becoming a ski bike, maybe tonight if I have another U-Bolt. Fetched an old pair of skis from my Fathers' this weekend and I think I have it all figured out. That freebie feels nice! Just have to find a flip flop rear wheel and a Fixie it shall be! Sorry I missed the Rez, took my Daughter skiing. Put her in a two hour lesson at Mohawk and now she knows how to ski! My winter riding might get preempted with skiing now that my fishing buddy knows how to ski.

Big Rez ride tomorrow DD. Mad skinnys, 150ft rollers, fielders choices', carpenter's dreams, glory holes, and sick hucks with beer to follow.

I am done! I win! My new commuter, "Feel the Fun" a 1985 Cannondale SR300 in Barney Purple. It's rigged singlespeed, of course and may soon become a fixie!

I was wondering why you have been sending me all those text messages, now I know. You really want to ride Mianus, don't you? Well looky here, Mr Fancy Pants, you got to do alot more than wear pink while you ride and act all big and tough around me to impress.

Welcome back. As for Flashy -- isn't your frame one of Specialized's top end racing models? We better not see any Sora, Tiagra, or 105 on that.

ah hahah. nice. i was on a cruise in mexico for the past few days. don't cruise carnival - they try to jazz up their itineraries with all this "fun stuff" when it's really just the same shitty stuff with different angles. service on disney and royal caribbean were much better. this will be sort of fun to do, i think. i'm pretty sure i'll lose though - not going for the flashy stuff on the bike just yet. the old addage always says to work on the engine before the bike, right?

Hey, here is a thing: Could Fetish spread some love with their Fan Base and offer up some super steep discounted frames? Maybe the recipient pays $75 clams which would include shipping. Have a couple of classes: Cyclecross; Mountain; that way everyone starts on an even keel. Then you build up the frames and score them based on weight, sex appeal, total build cost, and maybe a few other areas that I currenlty can't think of right now (11 hour work days turn brain to jello). And what Fetish gets in return is a buttload of free publicity. Maybe each participant has to submit a bike shot with a hot model (male and female) and no Adam, you can't pose for both! Eric, got any contacts with the boys at Fetish?

Any shop employees want to get me @cost or reduced pricing? Andy already has that advantage. I'll give you a 1-week pass to the 'premium' pages on the site (recently updated with DirtDad's unrated versions of his 69'r Fixation).

Of course, if I can push that off until next year, then the counter tops could be the 10 year anniversary present which will be a hell of a lot cheaper than the diamond jewelry she keeps insinuating about. Ain't marriage just grand?

Oops, and I mean Andy, not Larry. I just figured out how to pay for once the Stock Market picks up again, and no, I am not selling on margin but it will mean I am buying my wife granite counter tops this year.

Nah, I am good - have my own CC for discretionary spending, such as bike and fishing stuff. Not sure I want to banished from the site forever, and besides this site would be boring again without me and you'd miss me, too. I know mindless will kick my fourth point of contact, heck he works in a bike shop. Maybe that is the challenge, bike mechanic vs bike mechanic/shop owner (sorry Larry don't remember if you own the shop or what). I know, let's do the challenge Trading Places style, no the loser doesn't have to live in a box, rather the winner gets a dollar, and bragging rights.
