First Bike in a While
Posted by illfish on November 22, 2005

Good day all. I just bought a 2005 S.A.C. frame I’m looking forward to building this up. I have a buddy that used to work at Sunflower Bike Shop in Lawrence, KS (Go Jayhawks!) that’s gonna help me with the tougher stuff. Any advice on where I can get some cheap parts (or if you want to sell any older parts that are still in good condition) would be greatly appreciated. I’m partial to the Campy groupset.

I also want to make note that this is my first foray back into serious riding in about 5 years. As my profile states, I had a Bianchi but sold it to buy my beautiful wife her engagement ring. Well, it was part of the group of stuff I sold to buy her ring. In any case, please don’t make fun of me. I’m out of the loop and I haven’t really done any serious riding except on my mtn bike to the bus stop (doing my part). I don’t even have a cool bike rack. My oldest son does have a sweet dyno bmx’r though.

Anyhoo, I can’t wait to get started with this frame. I’ve done a little research and I’m pretty amped about the bike.

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to get in contact with them. My sister in law's boyfriend lives in Phoenix so I'll see if he can pick something up for me. As far as the rack goes, I know it's no big deal. I had a conversation with this cat from the Kansas City Bike Club. He claimed that if you didn't have a serious rack on your sled, you aren't a serious rider. At the time I was putting upwards of 150 miles a week on the road. Not a lot by most standards, but enough with a big ride on the weekend. And frankly I didn't need a rack because I was doing all my riding from doorstep to doorstep. But anyway, I'm not bitter. I think it's the tryptophan and mini-keg of Grolsch my father in law got me. This guy was also a guy who wouldn't share a spare tube (and I KNOW he had more than an extra. i.e. 2 spares) when I was broken down on the road with 20 more miles to go. I had packed a mtn tube, not a road. HOWEVER (and this is the good karma part of the story) I was walking up the road in my road shoes with Look cleats (not fun-I forgot my vans back at the office) and this dude picks me up in his Chevy Luv mini truck. I put my Bianchi in the bed and hop in (there was a bike shop about ten minutes away) and sit down. I say, "THanks man, i just need a lift to Old Town Cycles (now defunct)." He's like, "That's cool man." and I look in the ash tray and ma man's burnin' one. No big woop. He gets me to the shop and I say thanks about 100 times. All he says to me is, "No problem man, just help someone out sometime."

congrats on the new frame. i've heard good things about the sac and the aero sac. do you have an entire frameset yet? if you're looking for a carbon fork for a good price, call fetish's main line and see if they have some blemished ones in their warehouse. (i did this and got the 300 dollar fork for 75 bucks...) sure, there are chips in the paint, but it's not too noticeable especially after you put on your wheels. actually, the "specials" on the main fetish site is really good too for parts. i'm probably going to get disowned for saying this, but ONCE IN AWHILE, bikenashbar.com has decent deals on campy groupsets. they have weekly specials too - just stay away from the inhouse products. and who cares if you don't have a bike rack? i lean my bike against the wall or just keep it on my trainer. hope this helps.
