About

1998 Spooky Darkside. The components are mostly used but the frame was unridden. It is nearly impossible to find a used Spooky frame let alone one in this condition. The geometry is designed for hardcore northeast single track and is a little longer than the D&S.

I may swap out the fork for something newer and resurrect my Magura hydraulic rim breaks to complete the retro-feel.

New (5/13/2007): XT V-brakes and levers.

New (6/2007): MAJOR MODIFICATIONS IN PROGRESS.

(7/2007): XTR Drive Train (Shifters, Levers, Dérailleurs. XT Cassette, Easton Monkey Lite Carbon Riser Bar, Jagwire Ripcord Pink Cables, Chris King Pink headset, custom Pink Painted Cages and Seat Collar.

(8/2007): 2007 Fox F100 RLC Fork.

(2/2009): XTR/DuraAce Cables, Ringle Limelight/Dirty Flea wheelset (1480g)

Actually, they are coming back. Not to Danbury, rather somewhere in Mass. I have been in touch with a guy by the name of Mickey who is trying to bring back the company. The even have a minor web presence but there is no definite launch date.

Most responsive, stiffest hard tail I've ever be on. Wish this company was still around.

I kinda want to just rip on this bike as is and see what happens. Not a huge fan of how the 97/98/99 LX line looks but it will do for now. I'm tempted to rip the parts of the D&S but that bike is too sweet to strip down (the new 2006 frame I have has only been ridden twice).

Late model Darksides did have frame cracking issues. I tend to think this is because Spooky got too big too fast towards the end and the quality went down hill. Since this is a 1998 I think i'll be fine... but the non-replaceable hanger is a bit concerning.

Ha ha! I remember this bike!!! Holy shit that was a long time ago. Sweet find Eric! Get rid of all that LX. The frame though, just outright fantastic. don't break it.
