About
Glenn Danzig, eat your heart out. This bike will dominate you and make you submit to the unwielding power of the mountain gods. Behold, the Fetish Fixation All Mountain Bike.
Not sure if anyone else has tried this but here is my first 69er! Fixation frame with a Surly Instigator Fork that takes 26er and 29er wheels due to the high axel to crown height. Still have to take it into the shop and get the headset checked out. Also, I already replaced the SIC stem with the Avid SAAGO. I will get another daylight picture with it. Oh, 26 pounds! 1 pound lighter than my Qball!
20070421 Update: New Bars, grips, tires, and a Bottle Opener/Surly Tugnut. Decided to switch the FUBars to the Qball and use some riser bars with my new Pepperjack Grips from Salsa that I got at EMS this week. Got the Tugnut two weeks ago and OMG, what a difference! Also got a set of Motoraptors 2.4 that make a big difference. Just need a fatter tire up front and I will be rocking (coming soon)!
Here is the mullet, “queue de rat” en francais! Also, since New England is not Colorado, I am now sporting an EndlessBikes 20t Cog in the rear.
20070616 Update:It’s, it’s, it’s a mountain bike? A hard tail at that. I am not sure if the 130mm front fork is the best solution here because the frame is really designed for a 100mm but its what I had on hand and its worth a try. Tooling around the yard and on my practice skinny, it has a light, nimble feeling. The fork seems to even out the bumps along the entire frame. It also weighs 4 pounds more now.
20070819 Went back to SS again on account I gutted my rear deraileur cage with a kinked chain. Tried one ride with the Atomblast wheelset and the Motoraptors (2.4s) with a spacer kit and it was no fun to ride – way to heavy. Put on a SS specific wheelset and a pair of Kenda Kerate 2.1s and this bike is now an XC knife. Weighs in at 27 pounds and is super maneuverable.
And now, for something completely different – a commuter! Now that the office is a mere 10 miles distant it’s time to ride to work! I put the Shimano crankset from Qball on, the Qstick rigid 29er fork with 26er front wheel, Kenda Kross Police (they were cheap) and hopefully enough reflectors so that I don’t get killed riding on the roads.
20071017 – pimping this ride even more. Got white, Demolition cables connecting Avid Single Digit Cantis. Fenders, mirror, bell, and a Bell Gell seat for my Tushy. I put on a Rock Shock Jett to soften the ride – CT backroads sure are bumpy!
20071209 – Getting in gear. Going back to a 1×9 for now and when I get a front derailuer, then it will 3×9. Also, got the new Surly 1×1 fork on and it looks sweet. Need to change out the front wheel to match the back and finish hooking up the rear deraileur and get a white bottle cage.
20071224
All I can say is Thanks Scooby to making the suggestion that I try 700c wheels! It’s awesome. Going to give her a spin today. It’s 26 pounds now. I am sure if changed a few things I could get it to 25 or even 24 pounds, maybe even 21 if I had a carbon fork.
20080208
Decommissioned the bike as a commuter and threw on a TomiCog and voila, I now have a fixie, for off road riding!
20080309
Added Azonic White Strip Bars and a shorter stem from Special Ed

MOTTTTTTTTTHAAAAAAA!!

Given the same sequencing type, I think it's an 069er.

Is that a 13"-24"-29"'r? A 349'r, if you will.

That is at the north end of the trail. It's looking pretty sweet. This weekend is going to get some major work done on it.

I will write something up after I have ridden to work this Friday. Going to make another attempt at riding in and riding home. Need to figure out how to mount a better light. What I really need is just better light set.

Check out that stem! How's commuting been? Write up a blog about it...

The Jett does the trick! Bumpy and dirt roads, the Jett definitely smooths things out.
Left by Dirt_Dad on October 20, 2007
I'm not so sure a Rock Shox Jett is going to smooth out anything ;) Post a picture of the new build-up.

Dirt_Dad, XC knife is right. The Fixation seems to cut through single track corners like it is on rails. I know it isn't my skill
that is making it go like that! Very cool build out.

The Mullet concept is good. I haven't really noticed much of difference yet between disc and canti's but there is a little weight savings, not that I care right now since I am under 30 lbs.

Disc up front, v-brake in the back. How do you like that?

New stuff for my fixation: I put a Surly Tugnut on the drive side of my rear wheel and took the fixation out for a spin on Wednesday for a climbing fest to see if I could get the axle to pop out of alignment and there was no such luck. Also, friend of mine that I rode with at Trumbull gave me a pair of Motorraptors, 26x2.4 and guess what? They fit fine with alot of room. So if you were thinking about trying 26x2.5s, definitely go for it. I might even go for a pair of Kenda Kinetics, Stick-Es, 26x2.6, which are only $5 a tire at Kenda's website for weekly specials: http://www.kendausa.com/bicycle/weeklyspecials.htm

I fixed my headset last night. I found that the instigator fork has a quasi crown race built into it and using the one from the Cane Creek didn't make sense. Not sure what will happen with bottom of the HS exposed to elements but I couldn't not see any other way to do this. I slavered lots of phill wood grease in there to keep out any dirt that is bound to collect in there. Last issue is that it seems that the eBay wheelset I got, front wheel was destroyed in the shipping and it appears the back wheel suffered some, too. I think I have to get the rear wheel trued, now. Arrrrgh!
Left by Dirt_Dad on March 14, 2007
Yeah, I think I am going to need some tugs - I have a pair of Redlines but they won't fit on the axel I have. Going to see what eBay has in the offering. Since I haven't ridden with the bars, can't really say at the moment what they're like. Once I get the headset figured out and take it for its innaugural ride, I will render a full report. In the meantime, I am uploading some more shots.
Left by Dirt_Dad on March 11, 2007
Lookin good. Can you get another shot of those bars? How do you like them? Also, you may want to invest in a Surly tuggnut or two...

I looked up that Avid SAAGO stem since I didn't know anything about it and was impressed there's a solution for not having enough steerer tube, and wow, that thing sounds pretty cool! It looks like it'll work out very nicely on the fixation, keep us posted and take a nice picture for us of it when it arrives and is installed.
Left by wesley124 on March 04, 2007
Got some stuff installed, cranks, headset and fork. Only, the fork presents a problem. The steerer tube is too short but I think I have it figured out. I have purchased an Avid SAAGO stem, which is made for these situations where you don't have enough steering tube. Also on order are my brake cables. Once everything comes in, it will build up time.
