About

Had this bike since just before our B.C. honeymoon (200 or so miles through the Coast Mountains with a quick stop in Whistler). I have since changed every single part of it one by one except for the headset, stem, handlebar and front wheel (yes even the frame, and the fork). Lots of miles and broken/replaced/fixed/rigged parts later and here it is…

Douglas - Fall rides are the best!
The lefty rocks! Odd to look at, but it definately performs. The frame broke just ahead of the left dropout between the seat and chainstays. I was on an unfamiliar trail carrying too much momentum to stop and ended up dropping off about 3 or 4 feet awkwardly to flat. I heard it when I landed, but couldn't find anything wrong. Didn't notice it until about two weeks later when I couldn't get my disc brake to stop rubbing. Cannondale replaced it (but it took a while and I had no choice on color--you get what they happen to have in stock when its a warrantee replacement). I guess the fork isn't really new, I had it completely rebuilt at the end of last season when it finally gave up on me. Cannondale had it for about two weeks, replaced the guts of it, charged me a couple hundred bucks and I put it back together after only about 3 weeks without a MTB. I was absolutely amazed what it would have cost to replace the lefty alone (more than half the cost of the bike new), and to switch to a non-Cannondale fork is a pain in the ass since you need a special headset and reducer in addition the the price of the shock. It almost seemed like an easier and better deal to replace the whole bike and get all new stuff for just a little more. Actually over the last few years, I'm sure I have paid a rediculous amount for this bike piece by piece compared to buying a new one. Not to mention the tool investment and well, my wife may read this so I think I'll just mention that I get great deals from my friends at CycleWorks and leave it at that...

How do you like the Lefty? (And how did your frame/fork break)
