redid the bike again for a trip to DC.
after pondering my needs for a long, relatively flat ride carrying unneeded gear i threw the cranks/gears/shifter/deraileurs in the trash. then i threw the rear brake/lever in the trash. then i threw the suspension fork in the trash.
went with 45:13 ratio. should have done 45:11.
its a 19" frame so i put on an uncorrected rigid fork which dropped height and weight.
threw on a new BB, chain, and a new/used saddle
then i rode to dc
been using it as a commuter now. 45:13 is too tough for PGH though. gotta switch to a 18-20t cog
new pics soon
started doing some winter camping, and grunt had a new life yet again. throw a bivvy/a 0degree bag/a stove/food/tarp on Grunt and off we go. I use the bike at the side of a lean to and sleep soundly in the snow.
even if it’s not a handsome bike or even a really good bike it has served me well. it climbs like a goat and has yet to fail me. sadly, i was seduced by newer sexier bikes so unless an out of town visitor needs a loaner it rarely makes it onto singletrack anymore.
once i threw on racks and saddle bags it had new purpose and meaning -a groccery/beer bike and a long haul trucker. rode it from pgh to dc once.
blurry picture cause it’s the ghost of mtn bike and ghosts do not photograph well.
