Found it on the side of the road with a $15 sign on it. I had been looking for a commuter and decided to grab it. It was in great shape for being as old as me (still had the original tires on it according to the guy who sold it to me). The handlebars were turned upside down so you could sit up, but had to work the brakes with your thumbs. Bought fenders, all new cables, tires and the rack/bag from my friends at Cycleworks. The bars from ebay and the seat and pedals I had from another bike. I stripped it down completely, greased everything, and re-assembled it being very careful with anything that could possibly vibrate and drive me nuts. It turned out solid and reliable. The only noises are from the chain and the wind. I don’t need any special clothes or shoes (except a helmet and sometimes gloves). I just grab it and go. I finished it last year just in time for Bike New York, but the pictures are all from today. I left the house with a wheel from my road bike that I need to ship to Mavic, and came back with 2 sub sandwiches, a brand new 2’x4’ chamios(found on the side of the road), and a teacup full of ivy. Tooling around town on it makes me feel like a kid again.
